About the Mamas

  • Jen

Hi! I’m Jen! And I have one 2.5 year old son named Jack and am currently expecting our second baby boy!

I truly loved being pregnant. I embraced my belly and the cravings when they came. I tried to pamper myself as much as I could because I really knew life would change for us so much after becoming parents and I’m glad we did! I did not like my aversion to the smell of coffee because I’m a coffee lover at heart and needed all the caffeine in my third trimester. But, you adjust! The book is wonderful! Authentic, raw and just damn honest. If I could give advice to any new mama it would be-trust your instincts. You know what is best for you and your babies. Never let anyone influence your decision on doing what you feel is best for your child and family!

  • Emily

    Hi, I'm Emily! I have 7 kids (I’m a mom to 4 and an aunt to 3 who live with us full-time.) They are ages 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 13!

During my three pregnancies, I felt extra emotional, yes- but very safe and loved too. What I remember most is falling asleep anywhere, crazy vivid dreams, having the nose of a bloodhound, and food, of course, tasting better. I also remember literally rolling out of bed and laughing about it. (Or crying. Depending on the day.)

But my favorite part- hands down- was all of the baby kicks and watching my belly move around.

There isn't really anything I didn't enjoy while being pregnant- not even the awkward sex positions. Oh, except for PUPPP. Haaaated that. (Google it!) But other than that, I'd do it all again and again and again.

Hmmmm... some advice for a newly pregnant momma? Maybe this: If you're experiencing morning sickness and you've tried everything else, pop in a piece of sour candy. It helps. ❤️

Hi, I’m Jessica Boudreau. I have been blessed with 2 amazing girls: Isabel, 15 and Ellyanna, 6.

There are so many things that I loved about being pregnant: the way bag boys at Publix unload your shopping cart for you, the extra attention you get from your partner (backrubs, belly rubs, “what food can I get for you today?”) and having a little human grow inside of you, and you get to go through every stage with them.

The least favorite part of my pregnancy was stepping on the scale, a close second is buying clothes that you won’t get to wear again.

  • Celia

Hi! I’m Celia, from all over California!

I met my husband in San Diego, had our first in The Bay Area, and we now live in Santa Barbara, closer to where I grew up! I have an almost four-year-old daughter, and a one-year old son.

My pregnancies were very different but overall I enjoyed them both. With our first, I LOVED all aspects of being pregnant! Other than being a little tired the first trimester- to be fair, we also got a puppy days before learning I was expecting which I’m sure added to that, and some sinus/cough issues for a few weeks, I really enjoyed it all!! Seriously, I cried the night before her arrival because even though I couldn’t wait to learn if we were having a girl or a boy, and see their little face, I didn’t want my pregnancy to end!

With our son, from the start it was just different- less comfortable I’d say. Not only was I now in my forties, I was SUPER wiped out chasing a toddler and also super nauseous my whole first trimester. My job was also more stressful and added to high blood pressure concerns. Curiosity, due to the difference in how I was feeling, led us to find out that he would be our “boy.” I was taken out of work eight weeks before our due date and had weekly non-stress tests to monitor him. While I loved knowing we were expecting a boy, I was definitely ready to meet him when he came two weeks early!

I enjoyed how relatable the book was for me! I love the lighthearted tone and how it captures the randomness that is pregnant lady moods! It’s a great gift I plan to share with expecting mamas!

As for advice for first time Mamas- pregnancy is such an amazing time! Please take lots of pictures and jot down a few lines of daily highs and lows! Even if you don’t feel beautiful, both you and your child may love having them to look back on!

  • Liz

Hi, I’m Liz from sunny California. I have a three year old son named Joaquin, who is my rainbow baby.

There are many things I remember about being pregnant. I wish I could say I enjoyed my pregnancy, but I’d be lying to you all. I had a hard pregnancy. I had almost every single bad pregnancy symptom you can imagine. I developed carpal tunnel on both wrists, my vision became blurry and my face broke out. I also grew hair in places I didn’t know I could grow hair and the places where hair was supposed to be had stopped growing. I went from 135lbs. to 210lbs. in a blink of an eye. But even though I had a hard pregnancy, I would do it all over again.

The advice I’d like to give is this: Pregnancy is not always sunshine and rainbows. It’s okay not to enjoy your pregnancy and you don’t have to feel guilty about it. Everyone has a different experience. But I will tell you this, the moment you first lay eyes on your newborn baby you’ll know it was all worth it.

  • Elizabeth

Hey! I'm Elizabeth, I currently live in Minot, North Dakota for now. We're a military family so we move quiet a bit and seen some amazing places but Charleston, SC will forever have my heart.

I have 3 kids, ages 10, 8 and 2.5. I absolutely loved being pregnant all three times! I felt gorgeous and had a glow. The first two times, I loved feeling my baby move but my favorite thing during my last pregnancy was the look of awe on each of my older kids faces the first time they got to feel their baby sister move. It is forever seared in my brain but in the best possible sense. My least favorite part was the heartburn, I had it so bad with all three!

My biggest piece of advice for any mama to be is to take your mental health seriously not only during pregnancy but postpartum as well. You call the shots and if something feels off, talk to your doctor.

Also, give yourself grace mama, you're growing a WHOLE person!
